Dickinson County Nature Center

 

Last summer while I was “surfing the net” for things to do with my son and daughter I discovered the “Bee & Butterfly Festival” held at the Dickinson County Nature Center. The “Bee & Butterfly Festival” Is a one day festival that both educates and celebrates with the masses the AMAZING Honeybee & Monarch Butterfly. What an AWESOME free event, we will be definitely be there again in 2016.

Since the event I have been keeping tabs on the Nature Center Via (website) and (Facebook) and there is always something going on for just about everyone at the nature center, here are several of the December events.

December Events

Downhill tubing: Horseshoe bend downhill tubing hill, will be open weekends depending on Snow Regular tubing hill hours will be 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday as well as during school winter breaks, Dec. 23 and Dec. 26-31. Prices for the 2015-16 season are $10 per day or $45 for a single-person season pass. Season passes are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Nature Playtime for tots (Ages 3-5):  On Wednesday December 9th from 9:00-10:30am the Nature Center will be hosting Stories in the Snow. Bring your toddler as we use elements from nature to do fun art activities. We will also have a snack. Please register by calling 712-336-6352.

Recycled Christmas December 16th @6pm in the nature center. Brings an another opportunity

Hike the Wild – Winter Survival Meet at the Dickinson County Nature Center at 3 p.m.  hike and learn about winter survival. A great event for all ages.

Besides the many different events they have up their sleeves it is just an overall cool place to explore year round. We are personally awaiting this summer to explore the butterfly house again.

While you are at the Nature center exploring you should definitely check out the cute little gift shop that they have available with a wide variety of different gifts ( My daughter requested half the store from Santa).

“The Nature Store opened inside the Dickinson County Nature Center in 2014. We stock a large variety of items from souvenirs to gift items that you most likely won’t find in other stores and definitely won’t find in big box stores.

This holiday season we have local honey, locally-made goat’s milk soap and lotion, fair trade certified ornaments handmade in Peru, coonskin caps, field guides, disc golf discs, Audubon singing birds, Safari animal figurines, color-changing nature center cups, nature center travel coffee mugs, stocking caps and hatbands and oh so much more.”
