I’m now going to let you in on a little secret. One that I have been sharing up a storm and one now that BOTH my children LOVE, The SW Minnesota Children’s Museum.
As a stay at home mom, I have spent the last few winters and rainy days wondering what the heck am I going to do with my kids. Well here is the answer.
SW Minnesota Children’s Museum
224 Lamm St, Mankato, MN 56001
We signed up last Spring (April 2015) for a year family membership with the Children’s Museum on a whim never have even walked into the main play area let alone played in it. Fantastic decision.
What exactly is a children’s museum?
A children’s museum is a place where children are able to informally learn through interactive hands-on play in a wide variety of different exhibits and programs. All of the exhibits are typically designed to be used by children.
One of my favorite things about the Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota is how well they make use of the space they have available. Since they are fairly new to their present location things change a little bit every time we are there.
Grow it Gallery
Tree of Forts
Is another example of how thought out and detailed everything is.
If you can’t tell from the picture directly above, all of the stairs leading up to the tree fort are made out of (and labeled) the different trees that grow in Minnesota. It is beautiful, definitely something to see for yourself.
Infant/ Todder Play Porch
My 10 month old son loves this one!
(Another use of great space, they even have a special place for breast-feeding mothers.)
Tape Escape (short term exhibit)
Quarry
Maker’s Space( Cecil’s Imagineering Loft &KATO Engineering Explorers Lab )
** When I was checking out the website I discovered there will be several new exhibits coming the end of summer 2015 🙂
** There is so much that I could say & show about the Children’s museum, but I thought I would leave some for next time.
