Last fall (9months ago) I gave birth to my last child. This means many different things to many different people. To me it meant that our family is now complete and our little house is now full of love…. And stuff.
Having 3 kids in 4 years allowed a wide variety of items to basically throw up in our house. Whenever someone would offer hand-me down items (clothing, toys, books, etc.) I initially would jump at the chance. I saw it as a great deal, currently I see it a little different (acquiring a lot of things we may not even need in the first place.)
Last winter I was absolutely overwhelmed. I was also introduced to the concept of minimalism (and we are a long way from being there yet) and the idea of being intentional.
Having three young kids, now I am make a conscious effort about being intentional about what I let into our house.
Will it last the minimum of a season? Is it washing machine and dishwasher safe?
Last winter I donated/ threw out over 60 garbage bags of stuff. Six of those bags were Ziploc containers, Tupperware without a mate, items that were not dishwasher safe, broken toys, or toys that were missing pieces. It was AMAZING.
The idea of a child’s toy should be child proof seems like a no brainer. However, I am amazed how fast my son can break several items that we have picked up and been gifted over the years.
Yes, we want quality toys for our children (or who we may be purchasing an item for) but at the same time I am unable (and uncomfortable) in paying an arm and a leg for a toy to be high quality. I want the most bang for my buck.
Does it help them developmentally?
Is it educational?
Is it SAFE?
Will it positively influence my child(ren) in some way, shape or form?
Will all my children enjoy it?
Will they be able to play with it long term and it isn’t just a fad toy?
Do they already have something just like it (or almost like it) at home?
As I have mentioned in several instances we live in a small farmhouse, our house is pretty small we would prefer to have more quality toys than a large quantity of toys.
That is where Lamaze toys comes in. I first heard about Lamaze toys several years ago, my mom does daycare and she LOVES getting their toys. As a daycare provider she likes to get toys that are all the things I mentioned above high interest, high quality, educational, and high value.
She also LOVES spoiling my kids and she has been getting Lamaze toys for them as gifts for years (and I have been letting her). She can spoil my kids and get the most bang for her buck.
